WTF?! I always liked Anja Wilhelm. It's a shame she retired right before the '88 Olympics.

WTF?! Non-gymnastics clip of the day. For real doh...it's Wanda from "In Living Color." Heeeyyyy!

WTF?! I think the following clip was on "Attack of the Show" yesterday. Via Jeffgymnast

WTF?! This was done at the '90 USSR Power Tumbling Nationals. Via Troska44

WTF?! Routine of the day. Hrabina Hrabrova (BUL) dancing to "Bolero" like no other. Funfact: Hrabina is the former coach of World Champion Kayla Williams. Read more about their nasty split here

WTF?! Random non-gymnastics vid of the day. Ok this 70's "Baby Laugh-a-lot" commercial is scarier than Parkette's choreography.

Ma Zheng got knocked for a loop on a Thomas Salto. Believe it or not he finished his routine (double back dismount) and won the 1990 China Cup AA. He didn't hit his head I just think his shorts were too tight.

Ok, this commie needs to lay off the ludes. FULL IN CHEST ROLL OUT ON FX! What was she and her coach thinking?!

Another one of those "It could happen" moments. CLASSIC! Sorry for the short blackout it was basic cable. Did anyone else find that scene kind of creepy?

Gymnastics clip of the day. Tracee Talavera rocked this FX routine at the '84 Olympics. Easy tumbling but who ends their FX with a full twisting arabian dive roll? One of the best endings ever!

Random non-gymnastics clip of the day. Cut my hair?!Via the legendary Yernar

Eva Ovary's first name should have been "Buster." Har har, Buster Ovaries...get it? Is this thing on?

Justin Spring slipping off on a triple dismount. Via Springerzz

Totally random clip from Howard Stern's Saturday show in the 90's. He and Robin discuss Nadia's grooming habits or lack thereof.

Routine of the day. Lin Ning got SOOOO much amplitude on his tumbling. Funfact: He is married to fellow '84 olympian Chen Yongyan.

WTF:! Ok so it's not quite a triple, but a neat trick nonetheless. Ulf was one of East Germany's top AAers in the 80's. He competed in the '84 Alternate Games and retired after the '88 Olympics. Note: His brother was '80 Olympian Lutz Hoffman. Lutz commited suicide in '97. At the time of his death he was coaching at DHFK sports club.

WTF?! Xiao didn't finish this routine at the 1988 Chunichi Cup and placed 22nd AA. Funfact: The reverse hect front recatch is named after Xiao and NOT Vitali Marinich.

Routine of the day. Henrietta at the age of 12(!) on FX. So cute. Funfact: Henrietta was interested in competing NCAA after Barcelona, but was ineligible.

1976 USA AA Champ Denise Cheshire made quite a few films after retirement. The following clip is from the so bad it's great horror movie "Fatal Games." Denise performed as a stuntwoman for most of her career. Her last film credit is 2002's "It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie." Warning: Graphic violence.

Random non-gymnastics video of the day. This video is a hoot! Family Guy spoofs the grape stomping reporter who got the breath knocked out of her. It includes the original vid prior to Stewie's reenactment. I had no idea humans could make those kind of sounds! You KNOW her coworkers were doing everything to keep from cracking up. Oh dear...yowtch!

A full twisting dive roll would be INSANE!

Power tumbling and trampoline blooper montage.

WTF?! Release move on PB by Lee Joo Huang. WHAT?!

WTF?! If Kevin Brown can't teach you how to do a yurchenko, then nobody can. BTW, nice spot assbag! By assbag, I mean he cheated on Rita Brown with Mary Lee Tracy while overseas at the 1992 Pacific Alliance meet. A few weeks later Rita found out, created a scene at the Mommy and Me classes, and the cops were called to the gym. Kevin divorce Rita, and moved to Cincinatti to live in SIN with a certain christian (my ass) coach. It didn't last and Kevin has been raising horses for the past 15+ years. Note: In 2000, Rita and Kevin's daughter Carrie was killed with 2 others coming home from school. Their driver, Mary Hill, was under the influence of Valium and crashed into an oak tree at 75 MPH. Mary was sentenced to 15 years in prison. The story was covered on an episode of "48 hour mysteries." So sad.

WTF?! The infamous pommel horse fight scene in Gymkata. The movie was nominated for a razzie award, voted worst movie of all time, and banned in Finland as not to offend the Soviet Union. Funfact: Kurt was sued by his baby momma for child support in the late 90's.

WTF?! Routine of the day. Nelli Kim's rarely seen 1980 Olympics BB routine from the '80 Olympics. Her dismount will blow you away!

WTF?! Non-gymnastics clip of the day. Newscasters can't stop laughing at model falling. Hold on...hold on!

Have a nice weekend! See ya on Monday.

6/10/10

WTF?! 3 years into retirement, Shush competed at the 1991 World Professional meet with a surprising display of difficulty. Dressed in a poofy blouse, she chucked a thomas (OOB) and Arabian 1 ¾ on FX in addition to a handspring front vault. She currently resides in St Petersburg. Fun facts: When she was younger, Elena liked to pick mushrooms with her family in Leningrad. More like magic mushrooms, considering the crazy skills she was throwing in the gym. “Viktor, I’ll do a full in dismount if you make that polka dotted rabbit on the end of the beam stop laughing at me! Oooh wait, the colors!” She’s also a (gasp) chainsmoker!

WTF?! Kinsey Rowe. She was coached by the Cypress twins, Deanna and Debbie, in the mid to late 90’s. Fun fact: Debbie was Head Coach for Oral Roberts University from 1978-1982. After Cypress dropped their elite program in ’98, Kinsey went on to have a very successful college career as a Georgia gymdog. Recently engaged, Kinsey lives in Dallas and is in her 3rd year of med school at UT Southwestern.

WTF?! SAA-LUTE! Hee Haw has hit Oklahoma! I was expecting Minnie Pearl to show up at any moment…oh wait she’s dead. Bart plays bluegrass guitar and sings backup on the Soggy Bottom Boys “I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow.” Not too shabby! Fun fact: While in elementary school, his coach made him walk to class on his hands. Via Bartgym

WTF?! I think Yuri would have won the 1988 Olympics AA, had he not blown out his knee in the ’86 Goodwill Games. He comes to mind when you think ROV (Risk, Originality, Virtuosity) in the old code. He tried a comeback the following year, but his injury proved to be too much and quietly retired. He later moved to the US and coached at "Gymnastics Learning Center" in Shrewsbury, Mass. He lived there with his wife and 2 sons (a third son had been killed in an automobile accident years earlier.) Sadly, he died of a sudden heart attack on May 10, 2006 at the age of 43.

WTF?! This gymnast was winding up for a snap down back tuck dismount and pinged. She was very lucky not to get seriously hurt. Via Saltocafe.

WTF? Viachaslav Kruilov’s original jam dislocate combo. Sadly, this was the only event he hit, placing a dismal 26th AA of 29 gymnasts at the 1990 Cottbus Cup. On a side note, Christy Henrich (RIP)was scheduled to compete, but had to pull out due to the “flu.” We now know it was something completely different. Henrietta Onodi won on the women’s side.

WTF?! Lou Yun, was born in Hangzhou, the capital of East China's Zhejiang Province on June 23, 1964. He was easily the 80’s best gymnast on FX and V, winning gold at both world championships and the Olympic Games. He was also the first gymnast to perform a layout rudi on V. Luo was on the Chinese national team for an impressive 11 years, retiring after Seoul. Having moved to the US in 1995, he is the General Manager of the Beijing Rongfeng 2008 Co., Ltd.

Recent photo from Beijing.

WTF?! OMG, I don’t know who whined more, Scott Keswick or John “We’re not doormats anymore” Roethlisberger. No John, you were the dog crap that people wiped ON the doormat. Or at least the US's gymnastics was. Stymie of “The Little Rascals” pretty much tells Scott how it was, like it was, and doesn’t hold back.

Recent photo of Scott and his wife.

WTF?! Random non-gymnastics clip of the day. Oy, the Japanese are a hoot and a half.

Wtf?! He really did ring his dinger there! Along with Brad Peters and Curtis Hibbert, Phillipe was one of Canada’s most successful gymnasts in the 80’s. Known for his trademark glasses in competition, his best event was High Bar (not this time!) He did many difficult 1-arm sequences capped off with a triple back dismount. Retiring after ’88, he joined Cirque and was recently the trainer for Celebrity Circus. Following the nut buster is an interview link with him and Stacy Dash (Clueless).

Stacy and Phillipe: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6DOkSTORq4

WTF?! James was nuts to even attempt this. On the new vault yes, old vault no. This type of vault is now barrred from competition. British National Champion in ’89, he competed in 3 worlds and retired after the ’92 Olympics. Awarded the “Master Gymnast of Great Britain,” he is currently a Brevet Judge.

WTF?! You KNEW this one was coming! This scene is a scream! I wonder if it was “Gee, your hair smells terrific” or “Body on Tap?” If you got that joke your ass is well over 40! Just.Go...AWAY!

Irina Baraksanova. 'Nuff said. Via MizMamie.

Random non-gym vid of the day. I love how he runs behind her on the 2nd part. NSFW, he drops the f-bomb at the end.

WTF?! Charlotte Pipe was the most “flairy” of all Seneca gymnasts. Neat skills but S-L-O-P-P-Y. She competed at ’88 Pacific Alliance and placed 12th at ’89 Canadian Nationals. I’m pretty sure her compulsories were horrid. Charlotte retired ‘91ish and unsuccessfully sued Carol Orchard-Angela for abuse. According to Janet Morin and Sarah Rainey, Carol was both physically and emotionally abusive. Janet was so scared of being around her it made her literally vomit. Carol moved to Britain and got married after Seneca closed down in ’08.

WTF?! Bars close much?

WTF?! “Meet me at the drive in for a tumble off BEE-ATCH!” Yeah it could happen...This doozy of a clip come from the 1986 movie “Dream to Believe aka Flying.” It also was one of Keanu Reeve’s (DUDE) first movies. Does their butch coach remind you of anyone? Hmmm. The following is a short plot summary:

Robin and her father have a car accident. Her father dies. Robin is badly injured and cannot compete in gymnastics tournaments anymore. Shattered dreams. She lives with her mother and bad step-father. Robin is accepted to the school athletics team but is not accepted by some other girls, so she works out at a friend’s house. Eventually Robin and her team compete in the national scholastic meet. Starring Olivia D’Abo.

WTF?! Daammmmmmn smokey! No worries, he survived. Frenchman Richard Tison won '74 and '76 trampoline worlds. Retired in 1980. Following the crash are two interviews and recent photo just to prove that he's alive, so save your bitching. Courtesy of www.acrobaticsports.com

WTF?! If Only Mary Lou would have done this in 1984.

WTF?! Does she even have shoulders? A manna is hard enough, but to go through a handstand? Shannay Gentles was born into a poor neighborhood in Jamaica. She was coached by Yasonuri Ishimoto at the Ishimoto School of gymnastics in St Andrew. During her teens she retired from gymnastics, and now competes HS Track in FL.

WTF?! Arabian triple front attempt on FX.

WTF?! Kurt Thomas Gymnastics America Show in the 80's. WTF?! This HAS to be a Geza Pozar creation.

Welcome to the WTF Gymnastics Video Blog!

This blog will contain original skills, bloopers, and wtf moments in gymnastics. It will be updated 1-2 times a week. Enjoy!

WTF?! This guy did an AMAZING HB combo that I haven't seen since.

WTF?! Melinda Baimbridge was a talented but often injured gymnast from Cypress Academy in the mid 90's. She placed 5th AA and won beam at the '97 USA Championships. Melinda also recieved a full scholarship to Georgia in 2001. Due to nagging shoulder injuries she retired after her freshman year. She now works as a financial advisor and coach.

WTF?! I'm pretty sure Lance's back flip dismount on PH is banned. Lance retired from competition after 1994 worlds and now performs on a cruise.

WTF? OWWWWWW! My shoulders hurt just looking at this. Boris competed in the '88, '92, and '96 Olympics. Csaba Fajkutz (HUN) also caught with 1 arm after a geinger.

WTF? Most bizarre gymnastics interveiw ever!

WTF? College gymnast getting his foot stuck IN the FX mat. Too funny!

WTF?! Natalia Kalinina. Fantastic gymnast in the '89-'92 quad, but was often underscored. She retired after the 1994 European Championships. Natalia is currently coaching in the US. She is definitely not at her best here, lol.

WTF?! Nebraska gymnast and National team member Bob Stelter not quite making it over the bar. One of my favorite bloopers.

WTF?! Bart Conner's dance routine from the movie "RAD". NO, NO, NO, and NO! It is highlarious!

Check back in a few days for more gymnastics bloopers, originals skills, and wtf moments.
